Challenge: Design and manufacture a personal project using manufacturing processes taught in class.

Result: Arduino-enabled rotating lamp that changes light colors based on rotation between upper and lower half.

Process: Manual milling of bases and interface plates, turning of support rods, wiring/soldering for Arduino-controlled LED circuit.

Skills: Milling, Turning, SolidWorks CAD Modeling, Arduino Programming

Product Description

The TwistLamp is comprised of two similar cube-shaped structures, each with an RGBLED array. The interface between the cubes is designed to accommodate one full rotation of the top half without damaging wire connections and uses a magnet-detent feature for tactile feedback. A central threaded rod spins along with the top half and controls a potentiometer in the base to change the light color. A mechanical stop in the interface prevents over-rotation.
