Challenge:

  • Create new IoT hardware intended to aid in chronic disease management for customers of a connected health company

Approach:

  • Led mechanical design team of 3 from early concept development through EVT release in 3 months

    • Completed a variety of workstreams spanning early stage form factor prototyping through manufacturing release of tooled plastics designs in a compressed 3-month timeframe

    • Managed mixed-level team ranging from experienced senior to entry-level engineers

  • Mechanical Design Architecture

    • Worked closely with client product manager to refine product-level requirements into engineering requirements

    • Collaborated with ID resources to define the look and feel of the device, balancing user needs with COGS implications

  • Detailed Design

    • Worked with electrical engineering team to develop mechanical control outlines for multiple PCBAs

    • Personally responsible for housing plastics design prior to domestic build

    • Broke down overall design into functional subsystems and delegated to team members

  • Domestic Prototype Build

    • Responsible for mechanical BOM and material drive for small-scale domestic build

    • Worked closely with visiting CM engineers to facilitate transition to overseas EV build

    • Collaborated on assembly SOPs and operator training

  • EV Release

    • Finalized and released tooling CAD package and ME BOM

    • Transitioned sustaining engineering workstreams to contract manufacturer

Skills:

  • Mechanical team leadership

  • Injection molded plastics design
